FEAST 2017 Smoked! Photos

Sharing is caring!

FEAST Portland — one of the culinary highlights of foodies, chefs, winemakers, writers, and well anybody who appreciates food and drink, both locally and nationally — is now long gone, but I can still taste it like it was yesterday.

FEAST PORTLAND 2017

Not only is this a four day celebration of food and drink, it’s also an organization with a strong charitable component to its mission. Since inception, Feast has raised over $300,000 to help end childhood hunger in Oregon and across the country, joining up with Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon (PHFO) as its charitable partner.

One of my favorite events of the weekend, at least for the last three years, has been the Smoked! event.

Held at The Fields in the Pearl District, Smoked! is a celebration of all things wood-fired cooking. An event after my own heart… and appetite!

You can probably see why it’s one of the highlights of the weekend here…

Which eventually translated to this on the plate. From Adam Sappington of The Country Cat this was aptly named “Not Yo Mama’s Garlic Bread!!! With Grilled Snake River Farms Tomahawk Steaks bathed in Smoked Bone Marrow” Yeah, I could have about 12 of these!

… and then plated like this. From Abraham Conlon & Adrienne Lo of Fat Rice (Chicago) this fantastic creation was a “Char Siu St. Louis Rib with Puffed Rice, Scallion, Jalapeño & Cilantro”… and I’m pretty sure one of the top things I ate that night.

And then there was this fantastic dish from Aaron Barnett of St. Jack. “Montreal Smoked Beef Tartare, Grilled Bone Marrow, Preserved Egg and Horseradish” Yum!

The Mac and Cheese from Mother’s Bistro. I have no idea what else was in it, but it was damn good!

And then there was this smart gal who traveled with this big carrying plate to gather all of the delicious morsels of smoked goodness in one tray! GENIUS! Definitely will be one of my pro tips for next year.

  1. I can’t believe I didn’t run into you at all during Smoked, but there was so much running around trying to find the room in my stomach for all the meat! Maybe you got some inspiration to try to remake any dish at home?

  2. WHOA that pile o’ ribs is my dream!! The Mac & Cheese from Mother’s Bistro looks pretty fly too. They always deliver awesome food. Smoked looked like so much fun this year, and gorgeous pics as always, Mary!

  3. Those ribs were SO good!!! Looking back on the night, I feel like I should have done much more eating… But it was still so much fun!
