Alabama White Barbecue Sauce Recipe

A mayo based dipping sauce perfect for grilled chicken and originating from northern Alabama. A tangy sauce with big flavor.

Equipment

  • 1 Mason Jar

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons cane sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon brown mustard
  • 1 tablespoon hot prepared horseradish
  • ½ teaspoon granulated garlic Use ¼ teaspoon if using garlic powder.
  • ½ teaspoon hot sauce We use Valentina
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon coarse black pepper

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium or large bowl and stir with a whisk until combined.
  • Serve immediately or store in a mason jar for up to one week.

Notes

Storage: Store in a mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
Chef's Note on Mayo: We do not recommend using alternative mayo products like avocado mayonnaise as it will lose the underlying rich flavor that comes from a traditional mayo. Miracle Whip is fine however know that it contains sugar and so be sure to go light on sugar to avoid it being overly sweet.
