When we first bought our slushie machine, we cranked out so many variations of drinks, both N/A and spiked, like our Rosé Wine Slushie. Since before I even had my hands on my slushy machine, I knew I always wanted to try an Aperol Spritz version, since that’s the quintessential summer cocktail in my book! It’s so easy to make the perfect slushie version if you know the right ratios for ingredients.

Aperol Spritz Slushie Ingredients

An Aperol Spritz originated in Italy and is a common summer cocktail throughout Europe. The classic recipe contains simply Prosecco, Aperol, club soda, and is garnished with an orange peel.

There are many variations of the classic, like our Blackberry Aperol Spritz recipe, and now this slushie version is one of our favorites that I’ll be making over and over for the rest of summer!

Ingredients for Aperol Spritz Slushie on a white marble table.
  • Sparkling Wine – We prefer Prosecco wine as a nod to the original Aperol Spritz recipe. Alternatively, you can use Cava from Spain or any dry sparkling wine.
  • Aperol – Aperol has a distinct bitter orange flavor and is the key ingredient in this cocktail.
  • Club Soda – The club soda adds additional liquid and helps the freezing process. You can use sparkling water like La Croix as an alternative.
  • Orange Juice – Use orange juice to sweeten it up and provide the necessary sugar content to get great slushy results in the slushy machine.

As garnish, we like orange slices and adding colorful edible flowers when in season.

How To Make An Aperol Spritz Slushie

Alcohol-based slushies may take longer to become “slushified” than N/A sugar-based juices. Plan up to 30 minutes for the first batch to freeze properly.

  • Prepare your slushy mix in a large pitcher and stir together.
  • Pour the ingredients into the slushie machine and close the latch. Press the power button, then select the “SPIKED SLUSH” button, or whatever your manufacturer suggests for alcoholic slush drinks, to start the process. The machine will run and be set to the proper temperature.
  • Wait: Allow the slushy machine to run for 20 – 25 minutes, and the mixture will freeze and become a slushie.
  • Serve: Once it has reached the proper temperature you can dispense the Aperol Spritz Slushie into your favorite glass and garnish with a slice of orange.

Important Tip

If you want to refresh the Aperol Spritz Slushie the best method is to refresh the mixture when you have used half of it. Because the slushie is already cold, it speeds up the process of topping off your slushie.

Frequently Asked Questions

how to clean a slushie machine

Once you are done using it, start by removing any excess slushie or liquid. Then remove the parts and handwash the machine parts with soap and water. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the metal cylinder that cools.

can I make this ahead?

You can make an Aperol Spritz Slushie in advance if you have a container you can keep in the freezer. We use insulated thermoses. Just make them and then keep them in the freezer. Remove and let thaw a few minutes before serving.

What if my slushie is not getting to the right texture

If your Aperol Spritz slushie is not freezing, there are likely two reasons: It either needs more sugar or it needs something to dilute the alcohol. You should not exceed 15% ABV in your machine, and you need at least 4% of the total volume of sugar. So you need to balance the two.

Start by adding 1/4 cup of juice or club soda, in small portions, until it starts to slush.
Most Prosecco wines will be roughly 11%-13% ABV (alcohol by volume), so if it’s not getting to the slush texture you want, start by adding more juice to increase the sugar content, or club soda to dilute the alcohol.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Prosecco wine (one 750 ml bottle), (Alternatively, you can use Cava or a dry sparkling wine.)
  • 1 cup Aperol
  • 1 cup club soda
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • Garnish: orange slices

Instructions

  • Combine: Pour the liquid ingredients into a large pitcher and stir to combine, then pour the mixture into the slushie machine.
  • Slush: Turn on machine, then select the "SPIKED SLUSH" button to start the process. The machine will run and be set to the proper temperature. After 20 – 25 minutes, the mixture will freeze and become a slushie.
  • Serve: Once it has reached the proper temperature you can dispense the Aperol Spritz Slushie into your favorite glass and garnish with a slice of orange.

Notes

Topping Off: If you want to top off the slushie machine, we recommend doing it when it’s halfway empty. That way it’s faster to freeze. Pour the same ratio into the machine, and it should freeze within 10 – 15 minutes.
